Cleaning out the........

closets was how I spent my Sunday. It was a rainy day (not night, ha!) in Georgia when I decided it was time to clean the closet. It all started when......

Robert and I decided that our family room was much too cluttered with 'stuff' and furniture. So we bid adeiu to the yellow couch and the sixty's coffee table acquired from the thrift store a year and a half ago. Now don't get us wrong, they served us well, but it was really time to say farewell. (Side note - call for help - odd job offer.... "If you live here in Marietta and want to make a quick $20, come get the couch and table off of our back porch and carry them to the dumpster.")

So, we decided to rearrange the furniture and set up the keyboard and guitar racks again. The room now has an open feel and is condusive to playing music (Robert, of course) or playing on the computers. Yes, they are both on-line now, his and hers!

Did ya forget to tell us about the closet Sheri?! No, you're not getting off that easily. Who else do you know who could write a mini-series about a closet? Needless to say, all of the 'stuff' got thrown in the closet. One could not walk in the walk in closet if that was the goal. So my goal became to be productive while Robert slaved over a stove at work. By the time he returned from work, I had unpacked and set up a new file cabinet (complete with a tye died peace sign magnet on the side,) in addition to putting together two small shelving units. It is so organized, one may doubt that it is actually a part of our apartment. While I was 'at it', I also attacked the closet in the guest room.

Results?: about eight bags of garbage and ten bags of clothing to give to charity. The garbage has successfully been transported to the dumpster, while the clothing still resides in my trunk. The local Goodwill was leveled to build a Super Walmart, and the drop box of a competitor charity was blocked by constuction and more importantly rain. In my trunk it may remain, until I feel the urge to go shopping and need the trunk space.

Back to our wonderful room (with the organized closet attached) and the great rug we ordered from The Home Depot. (I hear they have the most wonderful 'stuff' there!) The goal with the rug is to complement the olive green naugahide recliner we bought last year and I think we found it! Once the rug is in, we will have a light celery green paint mixed to complement it to cover the walls. We are thinking aobut a 12" to 18" chocolate stripe all the way around the room with the same color of draperies. Keep in mind this is the Beatles room, so we will also be using the existing artwork we have. We are very excited about this update to our room, as it is the one we spend the most time in.

This will be a month long project, so stay tuned for updates!

(See Jess? A post can be about anything including a useless, but nonetheless descriptive narrative about a significant (or otherwise) occurence or experience. )

Jenny joins Robert & Sheri for.....

a night on the town in Marietta, Georgia. Jenny, my little sister, joined us for a night in Hotlanta (well actually Marietta) on her way to spend some well deserved time off from work and real life responsibilities with her friends in south Georgia.

The evening started with dinner at one of our favorite Italian restuarants (just exactly HOW many favorites can we have?) Scalini's. Think Olive Garden, but much, much better. They also have bottomless bowls of garlic rolls that are literally swimming in a pool of real butter and minced garlic. Mmmmm....... Only problem with that is, you'll be tasting garlic for awhile, but if you're like us - you'll consider it a necessary sacrifice. Jenny had chicken parmesian, Robert - veal marsala, and me, mussels. The photo ops also began at Scanlini's and continued on into the night with Jenny and I playing dueling cameras.

Next stop, Marietta Square. When we arrived, the Square was hoppin' with a 'Concert on the Green.' Don't know who was playin', but they were makin' a hit with the crowd. We proceeded to our favorite neighborhood pub, Crystal's. The patrons are mostly our age, which didn't really dawn on me until Jenny remarked that she was the only one under 30 in the place. My guess is that she was the only one under 35 for at least 45 minutes. The band, Hound Dog, was pretty good, playing mostly 70's folk rock. Not really sure how many of the songs Jenny had heard before, but we knew all of the words. (Repeat after me, we are not old - just more experienced and wise than some!) At one point, the lead guitarist was asking the crowd to join in on the chorus of, "Take a load off Manny." We all joined in and he said we sounded like the "Marietta Tabernacle Choir!" After the first set concluded, we decided to leave and walk around the Square a bit for some additional photo ops.

As we walked down the street, a group of early twenty somethings' were sitting outside the ice cream parlor (which by the way was closed, darn!) discussing the local rubber stamp store. I can't tell you how funny it is to hear a young man talk about bunny rabbit and butterfly stamps! We head home to download pix and chat a bit.

This morning Robert had to work early, so Jenny & I slept in. I made belgain waffles with real whipped cream for breakfast. Jenny added some additional chocolate and strawberry toppings to have a virtual sundae waffle. It was a good visit, catching up with Jenny - we ought to do this more often.

Braggin’ on our Grandson, Nathan……

First of all, let me begin by saying that Orlando is entirely too far from Atlanta. As luck would have it neither Robert and I, nor Mike and Angela are in a situation to move. So, we have a long distance relationship.

I was fortunate enough to be there last year on June 22 for Nathan’s birth, a wonderful experience I will never forget. He has been a good baby from the beginning. And cute?! A little sparkle in his ‘still’ blue eyes. (Mike didn’t believe that most, if not all, babies are born with blue eyes) Wonderfully smooth skin, pouty little lips, lots of hair and BIG feet! Nathan began by training Mike and Angela that all would be well as long as he was held. Now, as Nathan grows a little older and has discovered that he is mobile, he is allowing some transfer of power back to Mom and Dad. You don’t have to hold me ALL of the time, just when I WANT you too.

The moment I realized just how well adjusted and calm Nathan (then 7 ½ months) is, was at Mike and Angela’s wedding on February 4th. Chris, brother, uncle and Best Man, carried Nathan up the aisle and took his place next to Mike. One would think that Nathan would want to be held by his Daddy or Mommy, but he settled right in to begin plucking the petals off of Chris’s boutonnière. Mind you, it was hilarious watching Ashley, niece and Flower Girl, looking over, very concerned, wondering if anyone had a clue of what Nathan was doing. After no more petals remained, Nathan wanted to be held by the groomsman, but in reality I think he saw another flower with his name all over it. He proceeded to pluck the flower, but at some point fell asleep. And through it all, he never made a sound. It’s as if he has well developed manners in social situations that some adults never achieve. During the reception, Nathan was passed around to a multitude of relatives and friends, once again smiling all the way.

The next social event was Chris’s graduation on April 30th. Here we are at the McConnell Center with a few thousand people in attendance. Nathan flirted with a few people, played a little and then fell asleep. The whole time, not a peep. We proceed to a party at one of Chris’s friends only to find that there was cake to be eaten. As Michael held Nathan in his lap, his Aunt Roxanna lets him taste, for the very first time, ICING! He is lovin’ it, and keeps coming back for more. His Momma Angela, who opening disapproves with this, is coming towards the room we are sitting in when Chris sends the warning, “Shark in the water!” Angela just wants to make sure he is eating right, but it is very hard with all of these bad influences. Now here is a time when Nathan actually voices his unhappiness. "Bwaaaa-aaaaaaaaaa.......... no more icing?" (Well he didn't actually say the words, but we all knew what he meant.)

Just this past weekend, Mike and Angela took Nathan to Chicago to see his cousin Andrew graduate from high school. I was very curious about how he adjusted to the cabin pressure, and how he did overall on the trip. What did I expect? Nothing but a good baby. Flirting with a little girl a couple of years his senior – then with anyone who would flirt with him. Mike says that Nathan likes older women. I speculated it is because we are lot ‘softer’ than our younger counterparts. He corrects me, indicating that what Nathan really like about older women is their credit cards! Bwaaa-haaa!!!!

I am so proud of the great job Mike and Angela are doing raising Nathan, but I am also proud of Nathan for taking it easy on them.

Our new favorite place.....

to eat is (drum roll please!) AJ's Seafood! It all started about a month ago. Robert and I were headed into Kroger to get a rotisserie chicken for dinner, when lo & behold we saw the sign, "AJ's Seafood Grand Opening!" We took one look at each other and knew that having someone else prepare, serve and clean up is far better than us doing it ourselves. (Notice I did not say anything about the cooking, because no one does it better than Robert!)

The menu options were wonderful, poor boys, mufflattas, jambalaya..... Robert thought he had died and gone to heaven. The waitress Andi was friendly as she could be. Turns out this was the first day of business for this fine eating establishment. We met Tony and Andy (he's a different person than Andi) who are the co-proprietors and have poured everything they have into this business. The decor is reminiscent of other cajun places. Fishin' poles, beer signs galore and stuffed fish on the walls. But wait! Look up and one will see an inflatable Corona airplane, named the "Island Hopper." Suffice it to say, we want that plane for our 'Margaritaville' back porch. Tony laughs and tells us that if we can find a lobster trap or shrimp net, he will give it to us. I tell him, 'game on'!

We ordered two shrimp poor boys and were pleasantly surprised when the order arrived. Now instead of fries, Robert got coleslaw (good stuff) and I got cheese grits. If you have never had cheese grits, you don't know what you are missing! The food was fabulous! Robert talked with the chef and owners about the history of the muffalatta, the challenges of finding a good food service and just the right bread. We learned that they had just obtained their liquor license that afternoon and henceforth didn't have any wine in the house.

Robert and I have frequented AJ's at least once a week and some weeks twice, so needless to say we are considered regulars. Yesterday I go in to order two poorboys to go and you'll never guess what Tony had for me......... OK, I'll tell you - an inflatable Corona Island Hopper!!!! Happy am I - happy is our back porch!

So, if you live nearby or even are visiting Robert & I, let's take a trip to AJ's for some authentic New Orlean's cuisine, the best we have found so far here in Hotlanta! Afterwards, we can relax in Margaritaville and admire the Island Hopper.

Til next time......

Finally, He Speaks... about Jam Night

Yes, I'm finally posting on our blog. I know that you have been entertained with Sheri's posts, and so have I. Just bear with me though and I'll try not to bore you too much. Hang in there with me for a couple posts, I'll get used too this blog thing!

I was surprised earlier in the afternoon when I was told to take the next three days off, it's been a long week already. Boss gave me a little break.
So with a day off coming up, we set out for a bues jam somewhere. We decided to expand our horizons a bit, travel a little further. A good friend and great guitarist, George Price, has been telling us to come up north a ways and check out the jam up there. After looking up the address, we were off and on our way. Forty-five minutes later, we pull up to North End Pub, a club with a blues jam we've have been hearing about.

We walked in, and there was an open table right up in front of a pretty full, but comfortable room. We saw some familiar faces, said "Hey," and soon we were feeling right at home. Nice...

George and the house band were sounding great, and there were a few "notable" musicians in the room. Sheri and I felt that this night definately had potential for some great jams.
We ordered drinks and dinner, which was quite good!... you're never really sure how the food is gonna be at a night club, are you? (But this post is to talk blues jam, we'll do the food critic thing another time!)

After the house bands' set, the floor was opened up for the jammers. Lots of familiar faces, and a few new people we got to meet. The crowd was enjoying the music, dancing, and celebrating the bass players birthday. All the while, Sheri and I are keeping an eye on the talent in the room, hoping that we would get to hear the "real" players get up and jam. After a four sets of jammers, George finally called the "pro" jammers up. It was late by then, but the wait was sooooo worth it!

There's alot of good musicians in Atlanta and a handful of great ones.Five musicians in that handful, in my opinion, were in the house that night. Andrew Black, vocals and guitar player, a real entertainer... Mike Martin, highly respected guitar player... Jimmy Mouton, heard him for the first time that night, awesome... Greg High, a bass player with the fingers of a lead guitar player, he's just that good... and the incredible John McNight on the drums.

All I can say is... wow. These guys were awesome. They started out with their own version of "I Wish," Stevie Wonder. Next they did a Stevie Ray tune, then an Allman Brothers classic "Whipping Post" and finished with a hot jazz number that Mike just tore up. What a night!

We left there just amazed and feeling lucky that we were able to hear all that talent, concert quality stuff, at a cozy club, an hour drive outside of the city. We will be back there again.

See you there next time?
Peace

Star Wars Movie Review

Was it 1977 when the first Star Wars came out? I do remember seeing it more than a couple of times and how cool it was for the times. Many years and many sequels have come and gone, of which I paid little attention to either. Fast forward almost 30 years later and the final (yet third?) episode is released.

Atmosphere
Robert and I went to the matinee and were pleasantly suprised that it was only $5.75 per ticket. I think the snacks (yes, I know Reeses Pieces are not healthy and I certainly do not need them!) cost more than the tickets! As we settle in to watch the 15 minutes or so of other TV and movie previews, small chillins sit right next to us and Momma walks away! Now something maternal kicks in and one automatically takes note and would not let anyone do anything to the kids. Darn! We really just want to watch the movie. Whew! As luck would have it Mom came back to sit with the kids. Thank you Mom! Now the large group of teens sitting in the row behind us, who entered the theater rather noisily sit down and put their feet on the back of the seats. Aurghhh!!! Was it the look I may have not knowingly given them or just common courtesy instilled by their Mommas that caused them to remove said feed from seat? Not sure, but they proceeded to act properly in public. It would make their Mommas proud.

Story Line
Robert said this is the best Star Wars yet and I have to agree with him. Even though I only have the first one to compare it to, this episode kept the viewer on the edge of their seat. More so than anything else for me was making the correlations between the stories. Even though the movie contained much violence, one can understand Darth Vader's motivation. It was power, but equally as strong was his desire to save the one he loves.

(Side Story - necessary at this point)
So yesterday Robert says that he really wants to get the first Star Wars movie and watch it again. Now silly me thought that we already had the movies, but only on VHS. Now I am saying this for all to read and witness, "I was wrong!" We only had one and it is NOT the first one. So we proceed to Blockbuster Video to either rent or purchase the CD. We scoured the store, up and down for this movie. Robert did have a thought, maybe others also thought of the same idea. So I, against Robert's advice as well as wishes, proceeded to the checkout to ask........."Do you have the first Star Wars movie on CD for rent or purchase?" To which the sales person replies, "We have a box set of the first three (4,5,6), would you like to buy it?" I wish y'all could've seen Robert's face! Kid in a candy shop, grinnin' ear to ear. We buy the set and go home to finish the 'fat burgers' from last night. Now, back to your regular movie review....

Story Line continued..
Watching the first movie is even better now, but sure is alot more complicated. Analyzing every comment , line. Rationalizing that Darth could have destroyed Leah, Luke and R2D2 several times, but didn't. Is that still a glimmer of decency? Side note: this is one of those movies that Robert almost knows the entire script by heart. He is multi-talented I tell you!

Special Effects
Wow! One of the best things about this movie series is the special effects. Even though it is high tech, it is also rustic. Robert told me that many items have been added to the first edition that weren't there originally and that many Star Wars 'Purists' are not happy about that. Hmmm..., if you never told me I wouldn't have noticed. Another interesting tidbit is that George Lucas did the voice overs for General Grievous himself. Now if you haven't seen the movie, I can tell you General Grievous has a nasty cough. In reality, George had bronchitis when the movie was shot and those are genuine coughs, not originally written in the script. Very cool! BTW, I am sure he is over the cough by now.

Costumes
Amazing! Padme (sp?) had some very nice gowns and obviously a fantastic hairdresser! There was one hairdo thought that would give us a glimpse into Princess Leah's style of choice, cinnabons! Padme is one of the only persons I know who could wear tights and a really cute top while she is pregnant and still look good. Yoda had a smart little zippered jumpsuit that fit just so. The capes worn by the men in the movie never got soiled at all. They make their grand entrance, drop the robe, then do flips through the air to get to what they are after. They never once went back to pick up the robe and said robe is never dirty. Now I know in the movie that the stage hands are picking up the robes, but what about in real life?

Props
From the space ship that Robert thinks looks like a Rambler, to the great white couches with the elegant curves (that I covet and would love to have!) the props were great. Better than Star Trek! ;-0

Overall Rating
* * * * *
So, I'm eating lunch with a three of my co-workers - when one asks, "Did anyone get to see Star Wars this weekend?" Yes, I answer eagerly and proceed to give a brief synopsis. Since Robert imparted so much knowledge on me about the movie, I kept answering, "Robert said." Hence forth, another question directed my way. Another of my co-workers says, "Why don't you get Sheri to give you Robert's number and ask him yourself?" Bwaaaa-haaaa!! So Darlin', may I?

Adding the tickets to the memory box as we speak. Don't laugh! I'll bet alot of you have memory boxes!

LOL, Sheri

Up, up and away......

to Chicago!

Chris's visit to Hotlanta ended today as he boarded the plane to Chicago. It's funny feeling a Mom has, wanting to help navigate the long lines and potential issues inside the terminal that may face your now grown 'kid.' The reality is that Chris is a seasoned pro at the ripe young age of 21 and really doesn't need my help. Then comes the great feeling that he has all of the tools he will need to build his future. He may occaisonally ask for advice as he navigates his new world, but it is just that, advice not permission. My youngest is truly grown and joins his brother Mike in adulthood. An interesting saying I happened upon the other day: "Life isn't about finding yourself, it's about creating yourself." Whew! Life truly is a canvas waiting for you to pick up the brush and paint the next chapter in your life.

I'll recap yesterday for those of you who were't here to experience it personally in Hotlanta. Chris and Robert slept in, while I went off to work. Someone has to do it, right? (Really this is Robert's well deserved weekend!) Chris goes to the highschool to help judge Drum Major auditions, then Robert comes to pick me up at work (early day 3pm) and we proceed to said highschool. I mentioned in a previous post that Chris is a pseudo celeb in his own right, and I witnessed it again in person. We arrived just in time to see Chris and the other judges fold up the table in the gym after completing their round table discussion. Looking up, one realizes that there are many kids and even a Mom or two watching from the windows that overlook the gym floor. Now one could speculate that they were watching the auditions, but I also imagine they were watching Chris. As we are leaving, he needs to stop by the music room to drop off the scoring sheets in the Director's office. One of the girls asks Chris if he will sign her yearbook and he graciously obliges. I overhear a conversation between two other girls, "I'm never going to wash my hands again!" and conclude she is referring to Chris having shook her hand. After he autographs the yearbook, I ask all of them to gather together for a group picture and they readily agree. I will forward this, as well as pix from the other night at dinner to my friend at work. I can only imagine that one if not more of these kids will treasure this picture with Chris.

So, it's off to the airport.... both Robert and Chris are hungry, so we stop at the 'Steak and Shake' eating establishment. They order juicy burgers, but since I have already eaten - I decide on the 'sippable' shake. For those of you who have never experienced this, I strongly recommend you get yourself there straight away! Think about caramel so plentiful that it clogs the straw.... (Oops! this is about Chris, right?) We are off to the airport, and should arrive just in time considering the heavy, but pretty darn normal traffic on I-75 - but wait! Chris' phone rings and it is the airport (well, not actually the airport, but an airline representative.) The message? The flight has been cancelled due to technical difficulties and there are NO other flights (connecting or not) to Chicago that evening. Hard as that is to believe, I mean it is Atlanta and Chicago, two of the largest hubs in the US.... So suffice it to say, Chris was re-schedule on a flight at 6:22am this morning.

Well, it's back home for us for a relaxing evening and a couple more photo ops. Chris updates his blog and website, while Robert works on rebuilding one of our computers and Sheri cooks 'fat burgers' on the back porch. As we bring our plates back to the porch for some dining under the stars, the guys are rearranging the patio furniture to face the door of the family room...... Ah-hah! the basketball playoffs are on TV and as luck would have it, they could eat under the stars AND watch basketball all at the same time. I never cease to be amazed at the inginuity (sp?) of the male species to successfully combine important aspects of their life!

Chris stays up all night, because he didn't think sleeping for a couple hours was worth while when he could get more work done on his site and the blog. 4:45 am arrives and we are on our way to the airport once again. This time, no calls .... and we're back to the first paragraph of this post. Hmmmm..... I wonder if someone will be there to pick him up?

Til next time.......

And the winner is..........

Chris and Robert! And the prize? A Demo CD of Zoom & Da Flash, an obscure jazz band at Crystal's on the Square.

Let's start at the beginning. So Chris is in town, and is doing the 'Clinician' thing for the band at one of the local high schools of a guy that I work with. Now, as funny as it may seem to those of us who are related to Chris, or have known him for any extended period of time, he is a pseudo celebrity to folks out there. So..... they want to do dinner with us (Robert & I only because we are his mode of transportation. ;-0) and we decide on Willie Rae's at Marietta Square. It was really a great time and fun was had by all.

Now, because these were all parents with kids, and a band director as well, they had to go get some sleep to prepare for the next day at school. But, since Chris can sleep in and Robert has Friday off.... we went to Crystal's on the Square. This is one of our favorite places and though it's very small, it is also very cozy and always has live music. So this takes us back to the beginning.... Zoom, the lead singer, decides that he is going to do a giveaway for copies of his Demo CD. (Is he hoping that someone really from the music industry will be there? hmmmmm....) So, "Anyone with an out-of-state, but borders Georgia Driver's License?" Well, I'll be a Mom of a Drum Major! That would be Chris! But wait! Robert says, "I have a Kroger card!" to which Zoom replies, "I'll give you a Demo CD if it has two identical digits next to each other!" Well, I'll be a Bass Playin Chef's girl! Said Kroger card is good for more than competitive pricing on groceries, it also can get you a Demo CD of Zoom & Da Flash!!!! Now, this band was OK, but let's think about this folks, they were 'giving' their CDs away like no tomorrow, so it's off to Darwin's (which by the way is pratically right across the street from our place.)

Barry Richman was playin at Darwin's and was pretty good. After Chris finished the last of his "Irish Car Bomb," it was time to head on home. All in all, we had a good time, but it was even better because Chris was here.

So today Chris will go back to the high school to judge the Drum Major auditions, then it's off to Chicago for the official beginning of his age out summer with the Cavaliers. For those of you who have never seen the Cavaliers, I suggest you go to see a show. It is something you will never forget. It's off to work for me, but first I think I'll wake these guys up!

Y'all have a great day!

Senior Citizen's Discount on........

A tatoo???? Bwaaa -haaaaa!!!!

So tonight Robert and I took Chris to our new favorite eating establishment, AJ's Poorboys on the 120 Loop next to Kroger. We are sitting outside on the patio discussing the day's events, 0ne of which is Chris working with a local high school on marching and leadership techniques. Robert chimes in with a major event he is supporting for the next couple of days at work. Tony, one of the owners, comes out to say hello and meet Chris.

Now Chris, being the marketing major that he is, wonders if Tony has ever though of employing the 'Happy Hour' concept. That, my friends, is when it all started....... A woman (let's say she was my age, but maybe a little younger bc everyone says I don't look my age) and her Mother (maybe Grandmother) are approaching the entrance, when she hears the words "Happy Hour." Suffice it to say that she stopped dead in her tracks and remarks, "I haven't heard thosse words in thirty years!"

Tony, being the smooth owner/entrepreneur that he is greets the customers and offers a menu. They are taken aback at the wonderful options offered at AJ's, even muffelatas! Whew! So said woman and G'ma sit at the table next to us, and G'ma orders a Corona. (That buys a lot of credibility in our book!) She goes on to tell the story about a time, not too long ago, that her and her friends had just returned from Mexico. They decided they wanted a tattoo and went to a tatoo parlor only to find out 'Senior Discounts are not offered!' This was especially a travesty because tatoos are also not covered by Medicare. Bwaaaa - haaaaa!!!!!!!!!! We almost fell off of our chairs! The great part is that they are locals (or is that locos?) and plan on coming back.
Being that we have visited a minimum of two times per week for the four weeks they have been open, the odds that we will cross paths again is very likely!!!!

BTW, Tony is trying his best to secure an inflatable Corona plane for our back porch. (Pix to come when I take the time to figure that part of this blog out. )

LOL,
Sheri and Robert

He's coming to....

Atlanta! Chris will arrive tomorrow at precisely (or as close as Airlines come to that) 2:25pm. Now one would think that I would be a good Mom and be there no matter what, but ...... a really important meeting with a really important person came up tomorrow and I had to make a choice. Wait another week to meet with this really important person, who by the way will not be available again until next week and would throw my project totally off schedule, or ask Chris to wait until I get to the airport to pick him up. Well, call me a selfish Mom, but I chose the later.

So, Chris will wait for me, but I will make it up to him. Well maybe Robert will make it up to him by cooking a fantastic meal, but we will spend quality time together. Chris is on his way to Chicago via Atlanta for one last memorable summer with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corp as the Assistant Drum Major. From there, he is off to make a name for himself in the windy city of Chicago, where he plans to secure a position at a marketing firm. I know that he will sorely miss Florida, especially Mike, Angela and baby Nathan (who I will talk relentlessly about in another post.)

Check Chris out at his new website to keep up with his life. He is particularly wishing for lots of mail this summer and you can also find the mailing address on his site.

So the ear piercing saga continues.......

As I decided to take matters into my own hands, I thought of a day some 30 or more odd years ago. Sara and I were sitting in her bedroom, when we decided that it would be a good idea for her to pierce my ears. So we proceeded to get the ice cubes to numb my ear lobes and the pair of earrings with the sharp post left over from the time when she had her ears pierced. It is very comical looking back, because I am sure Mom and Dad would've paid to have mine done too, but I guess I was impatient. I think the only reason it hurt is because she stopped halfway through the first ear to ask me, "Does it hurt?" Long story short, it took a couple if tries and she finally got it.

This all transpired in the 70's, and we all know the style of earrings teenage girls were wearing back then. Yup, hoops - the bigger, the better. So in my sixteenth year, at a basketball game in the bathroom - you will find me combing my long, straight, shiny brown hair looking in the mirror to make sure it was just so. That's when it happened, the teeth of the comb had a collision with the hoop attached to my ear. Ouch, yes it ripped and my ear has never been the same since.

Fast forward thirty years...... and yes, for those of you who are doing the math, that would make me 46 years young. I finally decided to have my ear re-pierced so I could wear some of my very cool earrings which are a little too heavy. Besides, I get tired of so many people telling me that I am about to lose my earring. So, I go to one of those mall stores named Claire's to get it done. I get one ear done with the gun that shoots the sharp earring. It's OK, but she shot the back into the same hole as the previous. Now the earrings have torn a BIG hole in my ear and it is about 1/16th of the way from tearing all the way through.

SO, while Robert is at work, I get out two ice cubes and the earring with the sharp post. Three tries and lots of alcohol (rubbing, not drinking) later, my ear is pierced, by ME!!!!! I can't wait til I can wear all of my cute earrings again......

And I call Sara to say, "You know I was thinking about you today......"

Til the next time, Sheri

Come on in.... the water's fine!

Welcome to our first post on our first blog. This seems a little strange, but should be very interesting just the same. I have followed a couple of blogs during the past year and seen the communication tool used in very different manners. Some are a personal diary of sorts, better left anonymous, and others are meant to provide a means of keeping both friends and family up to date, as this one will be.

As evidenced in our profile, Robert and I are so happy to finally have found each other. It was a long, some times bumpy road to get to this point in our lives, but we made it. It seems as if we have been a couple forever, but it has only been a short two years - with eternity in our sights.
